It leaves open the following questions:
- When and where will we play?
- Who gets promoted if the division winner also wins the playoffs?
Folks,Lou is prepping the schedule for games to be played on Saturday, 6/23, for quarter finals, Sunday 6/24, for semifinals, and Sunday 7/1, for the finals. There is one field 'in flux' for the 23rd, which will be Trinity if we have good weather this weekend (WAWSL wouldn't need it and we'd be picking it up). We do have a couple backup fields if we can't get Trinity, but I think folks would rather be on that field if we can be. Plus, 12 teams have yet to play this Sunday for their makeup games, some of which decide who goes to playoffs, where the seeding will be, and who just sits and chills until the Summer and/or Fall league starts up again.
If you want to make guesses as to where you'll be, hit the website and look at the standings. Top 6 teams go to playoffs. Top 2 teams have byes, and the other four play each other for quarter finals. The semifinals the next day will then incorporate the top 2 teams. One change from previous seasons is we no longer have a golden goal in the event of a tie at the end of regulation. Overtime is 2 5 minute periods, which if ending in a tie, will result in penalty kicks. Lou and I have allowed plenty of time between games for overtime, BUT, barring OT, games will start on time.One thing that hasn't changed is you win absolutely nothing but a golf clap at the captains' meeting the next season if you do well in playoffs, so have fun! It's why we play. ;)

I asked the scheduler some questions and he answered. we will only gain promotion if we win the playoffs, and even then, our desire to be promoted is subject to another team desiring to move down, or if there's room.

I will do my best to schedule you for the early match. I did get a couple of requests before you but right now I can't set anything in stone because we still have seeds TBD.
You are correct about the standings. You are 3rd due to head-to-head. I have tried to changed the ranking priority on the site but I can't seem to find where to do that.
Finals are the weekend of July 1. Nothing I can do about that (besides ya gotta get there first ;-). If Team X also wins the playoff the the second choice will fall to the 2nd place for the regular season (Tsunami).
It is important to know that the second promotion spot is usually available only if there is a 2nd team willing to come down. So regardless if you win the playoffs, you may not gain promotion. Although looking at the standings in D2, Funky Town may go the way of the dodo and if you win the POs, or Tsunami declines promotion, you may get to the 2nd division yet.

ReplyDeleteThe way the by laws are written:
1st place team is considered for promotion along with the winner of the end of season tournament, if that winner is the 1st place team then the 2nd place team is considered for promotion.
"Considered" means that the executive committee can take away the opportunity of promotion based on certain criteria....i.e. misbehavior of the team etc. (to my knowledge this has never happened).
It is the option of the promoted team to move up or not - it a team does not desire to move up they are not required to. If they desire to move up then the teams subject to relegation must accept relegation.

that is my reading of the rules too - and also my experience in watching the process transpire once at a captain's meeting. if we won the playoffs and earned a promotion opportunity, we would certain argue vigorously that the spot is ours.

i'm just frustrated that tsuami sneeks out the 2nd place finish. now we have to win - and with fewer key players than we had during the regular season. i cannot stand the thought of being gone for my team's championship game. i hope we get there!
