She was born during pre-season

If you know how to use a computer, by now you've heard about George's daughter.  Yes, it was unthinkable years ago when George was a wild, crazy, untamed bachelor.  But if you didn't notice, those days are over.  Any day now he's going to give up that BMW and start driving a Volvo wagon.

Congratulations to George.  This beautiful girl, named Nora, was born Saturday night.  Look at that proud papa!  Best wishes to Megan as well.

Best team photo ever!

Ally suggested that I look through her FB page for some good team photos.

I had forgotten about this gem.

This is by far the best photo of our team ever taken. It's brilliant. Looks like everyone's having a good time. We see the awesome Alex, who I've known since her birth. It's a DC United match; everyone loves that.

BUT THEN THERE'S JASON REINCARNATED AS DC UNITED FAN!

No matter how many times I look at it I can't stop laughing.

I love it!

POTD - this is Pepina

This is one cute girl. It's Anna's new 14-week old puppy, and her name is Pepina, or "Pina." Send in your comments, I want to see comments about how cute she is. Start now!

Your Captain works in aviation and he loves planes. Here's the first unit of the new Boeing 787, due in service next year. I picked it up from a fellow on airliners.net

POTD

Hope the "readers" of this blog don't mind sharing in some occasional travel shots. Don't mean to brag, but only to share some fun and fortunate experiences on the road.

This shot depicts Your Captain and Lala the Panda, a permanent resident in the Wolong Panda Reserve and Breeding Center in China. It was taken about a year ago. Wolong is a tiny and mostly wild place located about 5 hours from Chengdu, which is a city of 10 million in the Southwestern province of Sichuan. Wolong has been chronicled in many TV documentaries and is quite amazing to visit if you can get there. In 2005, there were 14 baby pandas born, the most ever. Lala is not one of them; she's a lot older, but she was probably also raised in captivity due to her accommodating nature.

P.S. - I've discussed this photo with a few teammates so it was time to share.

POTD

To accompany the recent post on Goleros history, here's your photo of the day.

It's our Spring '01 team photo, taken somewhere in Wheaton, MD.

This takes you back. See some familiar faces? You've got Craig in the signature headband, Patti, Patrick, Robyn, Rachel, Dara, Dawn, Hans, Jamie - not to mention Greg, Brian, and Shannon who stayed with us for quite some time.

This is the field to which Griz drove twice just for one game. The first time he brought his left shoe. The second time, he brought the right one too.

POTD

Here's Jackie, a.k.a., the Jackal.

This photo, taken last weekend on the mall, is evidence of her commitment to defense and to the team. She got this shiner in a head-to-head collision that denied a Team X striker a shot on goal.

That's why Your Captain voted her as one of our all-stars at the midpoint in the season.

Great Strides

Here's your Photo of the Day (we're not actually going to do a photo every day - this time, it just happens to be two days in a row).

This photo, taken by Your Captain on a mobile phone, depicts Griz and his 7-month old daughter, Campbell, on the swing in Bon Air park in Arlington. Bon Air has an impressive and large rose garden, which everyone should check out at some point.

Griz's wife, Mary, a Goleros alum,, organized a team of people and dogs to walk in "
Great Strides. It's a fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation where Mary works. We raised a little money and enjoyed some great weather, while walking along the WO&D trail. Not a Goleros-grade workout, but a great way to spend an afternoon.

Photo of the day

A new feature on your favorite website. From time to time, we'll post some interesting photos.

This photo is a recent one of Anna's graduation ceremony at Radford.

It's a nice moment. You can read more about it here on this prior post.

Feel free to send us your own photos.
