The break in our season couldn't come at a better time. We're off for two weeks due to a bye this coming weekend and Easter the following weekend. What better way than to reset and prepare ourselves to get back in the race.
Stay tuned for announcements about happy hour and a kick around, tentatively scheduled for Sat. April 23rd.

Heads up on fall schedule
Fall season starts on Sunday Aug. 29th. Please think about the following things and send me and Ally an email:
- Scheduling requests for the season. Let me know when you're traveling or when you might want early/late games. We might make some specific requests for the scheduler. When is the CUA alumni game? When is the Marine Corps marathon?
- Pre-season happy hour. Let's get that set up. I'm thinking Mon 8/23, Tues 8/24 or Friday 8/27.
- Pre-season scrimmage. We will try to schedule one. Dates under consideration are Fri 8/20, Sat. 8/21, Sun 8/22 or Friday 8/27.

Thursday practice & happy hour
On Thursday, we're joining another team for practice from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at Wakefield High School in Arlington. I believe the practice is going to be on the lighted turf fields in the back of the school, towards the north side. We've played games there.
Afterwards - in other words, sometime after 8:30 - we're headed to Shirlington for some drinks. The place is called Bungalow Billiards. It's on the backside of the main strip.
See you there!
Thanks to Cat & Chris for organizing.

We're off for two weeks; ambitious practice schedule planned
We have two weeks off - next week is Easter and we have a bye on April 11th.
We're going to try to practice 2-3 times per week in the interim so that we're ready for our long stretch of games beginning April 18th.
Stay tuned. First practice is likely Wednesday, with a more official date on Thursday (sharing a field with a premier-level team in Arlington).

Great Practice Team!
Thanks to Adrian, Nate and Chris D (+ Chris' friend) for coming to Quincy Park last night to kick the ball around. We had a good time and got some great touches on the ball.
Adrian and Chris even had a game last night after practice at 10:00 pm! How did you boys do?
Hope to see some of you tonight at the CBT Draw Party!

Practice planned for Sunday Oct. 11th - what time is good for you?
Looking at the schedule, there seems to be a good opportunity for a practice.
We have a bye on Oct. 11th and the Marina field should be open. We can work on some problematic areas and prepare for the last stretch of the season and hopefully a playoff run.
Is there a good time for you?
I'm thinking 10:00 a.m.

Scrimmage likely for Sat. Aug. 22nd
Folks have been answering my email. It looks like scrimmage for the 22nd will work for a lot of people, if we can find the field space.
Save the date!
We will probably need bodies, so if you're on Tsunami, Flirts, or Red Stripe, send me and email because we probably want you to come out (golerosteam AT gmail DOT com).

Pre-season activities eyed
There's some buzz that the team should hold a happy hour before the fall season. Your captain is trying to rope Bubbles into planning it. No matter who plans it, it's a great idea. We'll shoot for early August.
Also, we'll probably try to hold a few pre-season practices as usual. In fact, I'm going to reach out the Flirts right now to see if they're interested. Nate, any interest in securing a field for us? We can also contact Max's team if the Flirst don't bite.
Any other ideas to prepare us for fall season?

Want to scrimmage this week?
It's a bye week.
Anyone interested in scrimmaging to keep fit?
We can do a couple of things. We can plan for Sunday morning early and try to get some field space at one of the public fields - perhaps TJ Middle School in Arlington, the mall, or a field in Courthouse. Or we can try to scrimmage during the week, preferably Friday, after work. If you ask me, that would be best.
Let me know your preference if you're interested.

Scrimmage scheduled for Sunday 4:00 p.m.
We will shake off the rust on Sunday by scrimmaging. This is a high priority for all of us so we get our soccer legs back before the season starts.
Sunday March 22, 4:00 p.m., Marina field in Alexandria.
I know, the field sucks. Friends are welcome. It would be nice to have a 9 on 9. Players from other CCSL teams who might want to join should email me at golerosteam(AT)gmail(DOT)com.

Opportunity for the Girleros
Here's an interesting opportunity to bone up on your soccer skills and help your team play for another division championship in the spring. It came over the wire from one of our league officers, Jim Sadowski. Your Captain is considering offering a rebate on dues for those ladies that attend!
P.S. - Let it be known that Griz coined the term, "Girleros."

RSVP for scrimmage
Sunday 10:00 a.m. at the Marina. I'd like to see at least half the team there. We will invite others so there are enough bodies to play. This is the best opportunity we have to turn the season around.
Are you in?

Pre-season practice scheduled for Tuesday Aug. 12th
A mandatory* preseason practice has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 12th at 6:30 p.m. at Bluemont Park in Arlington. We're going to do a few drills and then scrimmage Max's team, who I like to refer to as "Rolling Thunder" because Nate once led us to believe that was their name. We want as many bodies there as possible so we shake off rust and begin to work well together before the season and not during it. The tournament showed that we're not sharp right now.
Lots of people have said they can make it. Good, see you there.
