Early weather report

The weather is looking pretty good for our finale on Sunday.  Early indications are showing lows in the 50s and partly cloudy.  

We're playing at George Mason High School in Falls Church.

The Accuweather forecast is interesting for our game.  While tonight and Saturday might be rainy or potentially even snowy (doubt it), Sunday looks pretty good.  Cold temperatures will remain.  The current hourly forecast for the 10:00 a.m. kickoff is 37 degrees and mostly sunny.  There may be a bit of wind chill, but it shouldn't be too bad.  Weather will not be a factor in whether we play.  We will play so get ready.

 The weather report looks pretty good for our game.  According to the WP's Capital Weather Gang, we are looking at a brisk day with little chance of rain.  We will, however, possibly see rain on Saturday. It probably won't be enough to make the bermuda grass field at Trinity unplayable.

Sunday: The breezes are a bit easier on you but temperatures in the upper-50s to lower 60s feel pretty much the same as yesterday. Clouds may battle the sun, but chances of showers are MUCH lower—perhaps almost zero. Confidence: Medium

Sunday's game is canceled

The league moved more quickly than expected.  In some cases, the field managers canceled all activities and in other cases the commissioner just decided to make the call.  Our game is canceled, likely to be rescheduled October 30th.  See the email note below:

As you all probably expected, the weather will indeed impact many of our games on Sunday.  I wanted to give as much notice as possible as it looks like were in for a pretty decent storm that goes beyond our "play on turf no matter what" plans.  We have to put safety first both on the pitch and getting there in the first place.

 

So all games on Trinity, Roosevelt, and SSSAS this Sunday will be postponed.  For now the evening games at GMHS are on as scheduled for Sunday. 

 

We'll likely use Oct 30th weekend for these makeups.

Game status

Irene is now a Category 3 hurricane, and in some form, she's likely to affect Washington.  My latest text says we have a tropical storm warning in the DC Area - I believe that means heavy rains and winds, hopefully not enough to do much damage. 

The league's exec team has been discussing proactively canceling all morning games on Sunday, and reserving a decision on afternoon games played on artificial turf.  They would make that call Friday night or Saturday.  Since our game is at 9:00 a.m., I would say we're not likely to play. 

However, the game is still on the schedule and we're mostly all here, so please wait to hear from me before you make other plans.

Beware of Irene

Put the inclement weather line in your phones, folks, or bookmark this page, where it is noted.  Hurricane Irene could make its way for Washington this weekend, potentially affecting our game.  Of course, we are on turf this weekend so only lightning will result in cancelation.

The weather won't be good this weekend.  On Sunday, the forecast is calling for thundershowers around noon, with the possibility of showers most of the day. 

We are playing on turf, so our game is likely to be played rain or shine.  Only lightning and thunder will cancel our game.  If you have questions about that, call the inclement weather line on this page.

Our game this weekend is iffy, unfortunately. Here's the National Weather Service forcast:

SUNDAY
CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF RAIN IN THE MORNING...THEN PARTLY SUNNY IN THE AFTERNOON. HIGHS IN THE UPPER 50S. NORTH WINDS AROUND 5 MPH. CHANCE OF RAIN 50 PERCENT.

Given the rain that is expected tomorrow, the fields could be unplayable. Make sure to check the inclement weather line and check your email Sunday morning. If they reschedule us, it may be for Saturday next weekend or during the week. It may also impact our playoff hopes.

Anyway, it ain't canceled until it's canceled. So be ready to play. I would say there's still a decent chance that we go.

Weather questionable for Sunday

The weather report doesn't look good for Sunday. Regardless of whether it is actually raining at kickoff time, we may have unplayable fields. Make sure to check the inclement weather line before you leave for the game. If you don't hear about a cancelation on the weather line or from me, the game will be played. However, we are playing at Trinity on grass, so the chances of cancelation are higher.

Weather is taking its toll

The league played a lot of games on grass this spring, which means we were vulnerable to rain.  And it rained.  So there have been a lot of cancelations.  Tomorrow's game is in jeopardy.  Make sure to check the inclement weather line before you go.  

This also means that the playoffs will probably be truncated.  That would mean that each team would only play one playoff game.  It would be #1 seed vs #2, #3 vs #4, and #5 vs #6.  The lower seeds play for fun.  Only the top two teams play for promotion.  We'll see how it turns out.  The commish has yet to make the call.

The forecast for this weekend is pretty iffy.  I give us about a 60% chance of playing on Sunday.  It's all about the field conditions.  We're on grass so make sure to call the inclement weather line if you have a question.  Unless you hear that the game is canceled, show up!

I am predicting that tomorrow's game is played as scheduled.

We're experiencing some showers today, but they should clear up tonight, according to the weather forecast.  By tomorrow morning, it should be clear and cool.  I'm guessing the league will play the  game if at possible.

You can call the inclement weather line tomorrow, but don't expect it to be updated until after you've left for the game.

Rain is in the forecast for Sunday's game, but it won't likely affect us. We're playing on turf, which means we play rain or shine. If there is lightning, the refs may make a game-time decision. But show up unless you hear from me or determine from the inclement weather line that the game has been cancelled.

Weather report

The forecast looks decent for the weekend. We've got possible showers on Friday and Saturday evening. It doesn't look like enough to interrupt our game on Sunday. Follow the weather with our new weather module to the left of the blog homepage. Don't forget to use the weather line if you have a question regarding game status.

Sunday's game is cancelled due to field conditions.  It's important to keep these expensive fields in playable shape.  We'll have a makeup game scheduled, probably for the end of the season. No pick up tomorrow.

Tropical Storm Hanna Comes

Tropical Storm Hanna is headed in our direction, projected to blanket the DC area with her wrath right around kickoff time on Sunday morning.

We are playing on grass (Trinity), so there's a high likelihood that the game will be canceled.  Make sure to check your cell phone for text updates and call the inclement weather line.  I keep it permanently posted on the blog, but for avoidance of doubt, it's 703.229.1705.  If you don't hear that the game is canceled, show up!

Heat wave

We're in the midst of a heat wave.  Even though we have a morning game, it will be hot at the field.  Don't drink a lot the night before and come to the game hydrated.  We'll probably take little breaks during each half.  See you at the field.  It's going to be a fun game.

Traffic and weather

We've got some traffic closures on Sunday that could possibly affect your travel to the game. Massive delays are expected around the Wilson Bridge on 495/95. Also, some minor street closures in Clarendon will occur on Sunday until about 3pm, due to an annual bike race.

Weather wise, we may have some showers this weekend. They won't affect our game as we are on turf. So plan to be there!
